Welcome Home

In my last post, I promised an update on the goings-on outside of my equestrian life as soon as things were finalized. I’m happy to report that on Friday, my husband and I closed on our first home together! We still have to officially move out of our apartment and into the house, but we’ve signed the documents and have the keys in hand!!

It’s been a crazy, yet wonderful, journey for Sam and I to become first-time homeowners and it seems like the chaos is only just beginning. It’s amazing just how much stuff I’ve been able to cram into our 900-square foot apartment over the last five years — I feel like I’m packing box after box and barely making any headway at all. Unfortunately all of the packing and moving has been taking up a ton of my time and probably will for the next week while we slowly transition from apartment living to home ownership.

Welcome Home

Yet, I couldn’t be happier to finally have a space to call our own! It’s bit farther outside of the city than we originally planned, but not by much. Plus, it means I’m that much closer to the barn (which, let’s face it, is really the most important factor here). The house is in a small subdivision that is basically one large cul-de-sac; very quiet with lots of families. The home itself is just over 2,300 square feet with a full, block basement including rough-in for a bath. The main floor features a two-story foyer, attached two-car garage, formal dining room, half bath and open concept living / eat-in kitchen (with 42″ cabinets and an island!). Upstairs has a large loft, master bed with walk-in closet and master bath (with a water closet, two sinks and separate bathtub — so dreamy!) plus two additional bedrooms, a second bath and a laundry room. The backyard has a great patio with a built-in fire pit; all it needs is a fence for Rocky!

Here are a few low-quality pictures from the listing to hold you over until we move in and start making it our own:

  1. Congratulations! The best and hardest part is picking out all the stuff you’ll need/want. Have a blast!
And a tip… if you and your husband have never done a large project together don’t, I repeat don’t make the first one laying laminate flooring in every room yourselves. Unless he’s handy. In which case you’re a VERY LUCKY girl! lol!!!!

  2. Beautiful! If all goes well the bf and I will be closing on our first home in a couple weeks – the excitement is palpable! Congrats to you on your first place, you have to post after pics once you get all your things in place!

  3. What a great space! Welcome to home ownership which is wonderful and frustrating and fun and hard–just like owning a horse! I love the look of the front of your house. It looks so “Americana” and cheerful. Great kitchen too. Congrats!
