Weigh-In Wednesday: Staying Motivated

I’ve been super busy lately and it seems like every aspect of my life is demanding attention. It’s tough to find time to squeeze in cooking healthy meals and exercising when I’m already feeling overwhelmed. But I’ve been thinking about show season lately, which is rapidly approaching, and I want to stay dedicated to being in better shape so I can be more successful in the ring.

And it all sounds great in my head… until it comes time to, ya know, put in the time. I’ve definitely been struggling with motivation this month and it’s a frustrating place to be. Turning mental desire into concrete action is quickly becoming my biggest hurdle. So I’ve decided to start posting motivational quotes and pictures around my office and my house, to help remind me at every turn to keep going.

As I write this, I’m printing pictures of me showing in high school, when I was quite a bit skinnier. I’m also writing some quotes onto post-it notes to put on the mirror of my bathroom. Anyone care to share what visual aids you’ve used in the past to keep yourself motivated? Has this sort of thing worked for you? I’m a very visual person, and definitely a visual learner, so I’m thinking that having these images in my face will help remind me to go after what I want: a healthier and fitter body, mind and soul.

  1. For awhile I actually hung my swim suit right by my bathroom mirror! ha! Currently I have this great black dress I want to fit perfect on the back of my closet door staring at me. It works for me usually, and in dire straights I put post-its on my pantry. I’m a snacker 🙂

  2. good luck! i feel like spring is a tricky time bc things get so busy, and then it’s so nice out that we want to spend our free time enjoying all the benefits of nice weather and long days…

  3. Things like this don’t work for me at all, but I hope they work for you! I do better with the ‘just do it’ philosophy that on x day at x time, I’m going to exercise, and if there isn’t junk in the house, I can’t eat it.

  4. I really like looking at other people’s before & after photos and reading success stories. Tumblr and My Fitness Pal forums are great places for this!

  5. I look at pony, who is 14.1, and then I look at myself, who is 5’6″…I need to stay as fit as possible to give her every chance at suceeding. And I certainly never want to stress her back.

Live streaming eventing has also become more of a thing, and I really enjoy streaming it on my phone and watching it while I’m on the treadmill at the gym. I find that watching the pros really inspires me and motivates me. Plus, running on the treadmill mind numbingly burning so having something to watch makes it soucj better! Maybe you could watch some hunters on the USEF network while you excersise. There’s tons of stuff on demand there!

  6. Group classes at the gym. Spin on Sunday before church. Body Pump on Saturday mornings. Most days my husband goes with me. Sometimes I do BP midweek. I have zero motivation to exercise myself, but if there are other people there and someone telling me what to do so I don’t have to think about it, I will do it.
