Miles in small paddock

Re-Check

Bad blogger is bad. It’s been a whole week since my last post. I’m sure ya’ll have been on pins and needles, wanting to know how Mr. Miles is doing.

Hahaha, yeah right! Anyways, Miles has been doing really well on stall rest. I reduce his feed just a little bit, and other than being extra grumpy and a bit wiggly in the cross ties, he’s been a perfect gentleman. I can hand walk, graze and tack walk without issue. We’ve even gone on some walks around the property! Needless to say, I’m really loving my horse lately. His attitude has definitely made the whole stall rest situation so much easier for me.

Miles grazing

Last week Miles had a re-check with our vet. He jogged sound, so we’re starting a slow recovery program. This week we’re doing 25 minutes of walking and 10 minutes of trotting under saddle. I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that beasty stays sound. If he does, over the next two weeks I’ll get to increase his trot time, and by the 4th week we can canter and jump again. Currently, I’m aiming for a horse show at the end of September, if all goes well.

  1. Excellent! Having a good patient makes all the difference with rehab. I swear Rico actually enjoyed being on stall rest and rehab, he was so lazy. And I agree with Heather, he is super shiny!!

  2. Great news! I’m so glad he’s such a good boy about stall rest! Mine are always fire breathing dragons by day 3.
Fingers crossed for a smooth rehab!
