November’s 10 Questions

Thank goodness someone is coming up with content for this blog (ahem, Viva Carlos), because I’m certainly not. Between sickness, Thanksgiving plans, and the puppy, life is a bit hectic and as usual, that means less blogging.

How old is the youngest/greenest horse you’ve ridden? Youngest would probably be 5 or 6 (considering Miles was 6 when I got him…). Greenest? I’m not really sure — I haven’t ridden hardly any green horses, certainly nothing that wasn’t already solid with steering and walk, trot, canter.

How old is the oldest horse you’ve ridden? 21 (<3 Romeo)

Were you scared of horses when you first started riding? Nope. I didn’t develop fear until I was older and realized my own mortality, hah.

Would you say you’re a more nervous rider or a confident rider? Definitely more nervous, although I’ve worked really hard to build my confidence over the last year, and it’s gotten a lot better. But anything (and everything) new to me causes some level of anxiety for me.

Biggest pet peeve about non-horse people around horses? Not respecting the size of the animal. Please ask before you pet or feed my horse, and don’t run up to him… especially near his hind end. Even the calmest horse can spook and hurt someone.

A time you’ve been scared for your life (horse related)?  I don’t think I’ve ever actually been truly worried about my life being threatened around horses. I’ve been plenty nervous and scared for serious injury, but the one time a horse flipped over on top of me, I was too young and naive to truly grasp the serious nature of the accident.

Have you ever fallen off at show? What happened? Tons of times. Most recently it’s been in the warm-up area when I picked a terrible distance and my horse stopped. I rolled off his shoulder and landed on my ankle (ouch).

What’s a breed of horse you’ve never ridden but would like to ride? Oh good question. I’d love to ride a gaited horse — maybe a Rocky Mountain Horse or Tennessee Walker. I’ve never experience the running walk, and it looks so cool!

Describe the worst behaved horse you’ve ridden? Probably the pony I leased named Charlie — he was a hellion on the ground. He would lunge at men and bite them, and was just generally difficult to manage. But once you were on his back, he was a really good boy.

The most frustrating ride you’ve ever had? I can only pick one? Pretty much any ride where Miles refuses to go forward is pretty effing frustrating for me… which is like at least every other ride in the indoor.

  1. i’d love to ride a gaited horse too!! and agreed that the feeling of urging a horse forward when the horse is basically just like ‘nope gfy’ is the most frustrating feeling ever

  2. I enjoyed reading this! I would love to ride a Tennessee Walker, I’ve ridden some gaited Morgans before but I’ve always thought Tennessee Walkers would be amazing! I might have to do a post on these 10 questions! Love it!
