A Day in the Life of a Working Adult Ammy

A majority of equestrian blogs I read are written by fellow working adult amateurs like myself. We all have busy lives, cramming everything we can into those measly 24 hours of a day. So how do I do it? Here’s a peek into my day:

6:30 a.m. DH’s alarm buzzes. I pray he turns it off ASAP so I can go back to sleep.

7:30 a.m. My alarm goes off. I flail around trying to hit the snooze button.

7:50 a.m. The alarm goes off again. Did it snow enough for a snow day? Wait, it’s June. Shit, I’m late!

8:15 a.m. I’m begging the dog to do his business quickly so I can get to work on time.

8:27 a.m. Cursed is the light at Bethel and Route 33! It’s always red when I need it to be green!

8:40 a.m. I’m greedily gulping coffee in my cubicle and checking emails.

9:15 a.m. Why does Facebook’s new algorithm hate my posts?! WHY?!?

10:02 a.m. I’m so hungry, I could eat an entire cheeseburger right now.

I can haz cheezburger

10:30 a.m. Oh look, my Facebook post on new medical payment reforms finally got some likes and shares! Praise Jesus!!

11:23 a.m. I gobble down a lean cuisine while reading about effective strategies for automating marketing campaigns.

11:30 a.m. Decide the weather looks nice enough to ride this evening, so I go home on my lunch hour to walk the dog and pack some riding clothes.

12:33 p.m. Realize I forgot to pack a belt for my breeches and cry.

3:45 p.m. Look at my watch bleary-eyed after spending all afternoon in back-to-back meetings. Only 45 minutes left in the work day!

Buried in Work

4:15 p.m. Give up on trying to be productive in the last 15 minutes of the work day and head to the bathroom to change.

4:30 p.m. I start my car and head to the barn.

4:31 p.m. I pray to the Gods of Traffic for no accidents on I-270 and SR 161.

5:10 p.m. At the barn I breathe a sigh of relief, grateful to be in my happy place.

Itchy Miles

5:30 p.m. In the saddle I warm Miles up with some long and low walk, trot and canter work.

5:45 p.m. Miles has been great for our ride and I take a mirror selfie.

6:17 p.m. Tucked in with a pile of fresh hay and water, Miles is happy and I’m headed home.

7:03 p.m. What in the world is for dinner?! I’M STARVING.

9:00 p.m. DH is asleep on the couch, I’m watching Vampire Diaries and the dog is snuggled on my lap. Today was a good day.

What does your daily routine look like?

  1. OMG … I am ready for lunch by the time you get to work. :0)

I get up at 4:45 a.m., I am at work by 6:20 a.m., and I get to the barn by 3:30. I cook dinner at 6:00, and then I am sound asleep by 9:00 p.m. :0)

  2. 6:30 alarm, 7:30 leave house, 8:15 at work until 4:30 – 4:45ish, 5:15 -5:30 arrive at barn, 5:30 – 7:00 tack up/ride/un-tack/grain/blanket, 7:15 home…now I was confused in your day tho! Do you only ride Miles for 15 minutes?

  3. oh geez you get to work from 8:30 to 4:30 AND have an hour long break?? you’re so lucky. I have to get to work by 8 and work straight through lunch to leave by 4:30, with a 45 minutes to the barn, just so I can get home by 6:45ish and try to scrape up something for dinner! i concur, this should be a blog hop, we have fullll days when we want to ride 🙁
