What I’m Craving, Equestrian Edition

One of my goals this year has been to spread my money around, to accomplish some goals outside of horses. Blasphemy, I know! But since we purchased our first home, I’ve been focusing more of my resources there (which has been totally worth it). Despite this effort to be fiscally responsible, I’m still window shopping. It’s only bad if I click “add to cart,” right?! Of course with show season around the corner, I’m wistfully dreaming of a few new things I’d love to add to my collection.

The other day I was talking to Lauren of She Moved To Texas about some of my confidence issues as of late. She recommended that I start visualizing Miles and I completing the perfect hunter trip. She said “think about any height, but I bet if you do that right now, your trip has lots of problems with it.” And she was right. While I have a better mental picture of a 2′ or 2’3″ hunter course, at 2’6″, the wheels fall off the wagon, so to speak. To document my progress, I thought I’d share what my mental picture of a 2’6″ hunter trip with Miles looks like to me right now.

Crockpot Recipes for the Busy Equestrian

Last year I did a survey of Fly On Over’s readership and one of the things I learned is that as busy equestrians, we all struggle with time management. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done! So how do you make it work? How do you keep your horse happy, improve your riding and keep your household running? One thing that’s been a true lifesaver for me over the past few months is my crockpot. It sounds silly, but making dinner ahead of time saves me precious hours in the evening after work (when I’d much rather be riding than chopping vegetables), AND keeps me healthy by eating at home instead of ordering takeout.
